Melfor is a classic you will find in every Alsatian kitchen. Made from alcohol vinegar, honey and plant infusion, it is as flavorful but less acid than classic vinegars. Melfor is the perfect base for vinaigrette dressing. See our recipes.

Melfor's recipe was put together by Fernand Higy in 1922 and has been kept secret to this day. The Higy family still runs this emblematic Alsatian business.

Ingredients: spirit vinegar, water, honey, plants juice, caramel coloring.

    Fantastic Vinegar!

    This is my favourite vinegar!! Great flavour and not too acidic, I use it in all my oil and vinegar salad dressings. I tried it while in Alsace, and brought some back to Canada with me and was so skimpy with it. Eventually I ran out and my search began, I was so happy to find a place that carries it, now I order it by the dozen and use freely!

    First time I tasted this product was in Germany. I was told it was made only in France. Great flavor. I also add this vinegar to my coleslaw and always get great reviews. I highly recommend this vinegar.

    Best vinegar ever

    I am from Alsace where this vinegar comes from. For a time you could not buy it outside Alsace. I cannot stand the wine vinegars and when I cannot find Melfor I will rather use lemon juice for my vinaigrettes and mayonnaise.

    This vinegar is smooth--no acidic bite. For simple vinaigrettes it's just the best I've ever tasted!

    It is a secret blend of vinegar, honey, and herbal infusion. It makes a superb vinaigrette. Others who are counting calories find the vinegar flavorful enough on its own for a fat-free dressing. Melfor vinegar also can be used for deglazing your pan after sautéing fish, chicken, or pork.
    This product has a unique flavor. Highly recommended!
